About
Mark Daku holds a Diploma in Computer Programming from Humber College, an Honours BA in Political Science from the University of Toronto and a Master's in Political Science from McGill University. He is currently a PhD student in the Department of Political Science at McGill's Institute for Health and Social Policy (IHSP). Previously, he has worked as a computer programmer and as an assistant to a Toronto City Councillor. His research is focused on examining the political determinants of HIV/AIDS policies, specifically the role of the media and political leadership. His other research interests include applied political theory, the role of emotions in politics, media and the public sphere and the quantitative analysis of qualitative data. In addition to his work at the IHSP, Mark was a Research Fellow at the McGill Media Observatory where he programmed Lexicoder ( http://www.lexicoder.com/ ) automated content analysis software tailored for extremely large datasets.
